The legend of Chinese New Year originated from a small village thousands of years ago. Every winter, a monster called Nian would attack the villagers in the village. The villagers were very frightened and did not know what to do. Then, an elderly wise man came up with a plan. When Nian appeared again, the people created loud noises with fireworks and drums. These noises indeed scared Nian away, and Nian hid in the mountains. The villagers celebrated their escape from the monster on that day.
