CCTV9英语新闻：7岁绝症男童捐肾救母

A family in central China’s Hubei province has become testament to how important organ donation in China. A 34-year-old mother is today alive because she received her son’s kidney. Her son, who died two days back due to brain cancer also helped save the life of two other people with his donated organs.

Xiaotian’s mother Zhou Lu is recovering now after her kidney transplant. Her boy may not be around, but in his gift to her, he lives on, a living, breathing testament to life.

Entering the operating theater to win back life. Battling double kidney failure, 34-year-old Zhou Lu finally had a shot at life. But thanks only, to her seven year old son Chen Xiaotian. Here’s Zhou Lu speaking before her operation.

"I only accepted my son's kidney after my family persuaded me several times. My son’s organs will be transplanted not just in me, but also other people," she said.

Seven year old Xiaotian died two days back. Brain cancer ending his young dreams. But in his death, he gave life. His organs being transplanted into his mother and two other patients.

"We’ve conducted three transplant operations, including two kidney transplants and a liver transplant. All of them have been very successful," said professor Chen Zhishui, Wuhan Tongji hospital.

For the family, it was a hard choice. A 7-year-old is too young to sign up to be an organ donor. So the donation was suggested by Xiaotian’s grandmother and approved by the family.

"The boy’s donation is more than just helping others and saving lives. The family’s choice can encourage more people to accept and participate in organ donation," said Luo Gangqiang, director of Organ Donation Office, Red Cross of Wuhan.
